Do you subscribe to either the Clinical Communiqué or the Residential Aged Care Communiqué?
These quarterly electronic newsletters have been published by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine since 2002. They report on case reports investigated by the Coroners’ Office and discuss the clinical lessons learned from these patients’ or residents’ deaths.
Cases presented in these communiqués are often discussed in our Recognition and Management of Deterioration workshops which we conduct for both acute and residential care. They make for sobering reading, but are well worth it for the education and opportunities they provide for nurses to improve care and therefore minimise the chance of allowing the same situation to arise again.
This means that these patients and residents who have died a preventable death will not have died in vain.
